"Mad" is subjective, isn't it? What others have called insanity, he's labeled as ambition. While he wouldn't deny it, of course, he can admit he would take mild offense to his genius being dismissed.

She can only frown. Of course he seemed like the type of person who would lie. He's a mad scientist.
But she also can't see the point in him lying when the truth was more painful for her. Which makes this more unfortunate.
