[Yuri didn’t know what to expect when he was patrolling the grasslands. It had been mainly a mission for monster subjugation to ensure they wouldn’t enter the cities while the mages were working on new Barrier Blastia to protect them. So some monsters here and there, until he gives a rather distinctive ‘woof’ from Repede letting Yuri know that he’s found something that requires immediate attention. From where he’s standing he can’t see anything, but he trusts his steed when it comes to matters of importance.

And when he finally approaches the object of interest he can see why Repede required his immediate attention. A girl, huh? First instinct is to bend down and place a hand right above her mouth to check her breathing. Yep, she’s alive. Then two fingers to her neck to ensure a strong pulse. She seems to be okay, but this is certainly an odd place to be dozing off. No injuries that he can note and nor does she seem to be in any mortal danger aside from the monsters that could attack her if they sensed her.

Now kneeling there, he watches the girl wondering how to deal with this situation. Should he carry her back to the city and to a bed, or what? But Repede seems to have other ideas when he rubs his cold nose against her and rouses her. Immediately, Yuri puts on a lop sided smile laughing a bit.]

Zelos!

[ The panic and fear in her voice as she watched him fall in front of her was quickly replaced by anger as she began to take care of her assailants, keeping them from finishing off the red-head.

This had been her fight originally, and she meant to end it. Something, she had to grudgingly admit, she might not have been able to do if Zelos hadn't stepped in--literally. They could have stopped their attack when he had appeared, but had kept on, all of them focusing on him rather than her. Glancing back at him, her eyes widened at just how injured he was--there was only so much healing could do--and they darkened almost immediately with rage. At herself for getting into this mess, at those who had attacked her...

...And, to a very lesser extent, Zelos for jumping in when he did.

Unfortunately for her attackers, when Sheena was angry, she fought at an entirely different level--almost like a berserker rage that was entirely under her control. Soon, the ground was littered with unconscious--and barely conscious--bodies as a warning to never hurt Zelos again.

Or any of her friends, for that matter.

Putting away her weapons, she turned her back on her assailants and rushed over to the red-head and kneeling beside him, lifted his head to gently cradle it in her lap. Sighing, she brushed his hair back from his face. ]

The twilight hours had always been the time of day when Ellie did her best work. Whether it was executing a stealth attack or prowling to gather information, she was always more awake and alert. Ideas came more easily to mind, as well, which was why she was bent over her desk studiously sketching out the layout of the cave as best as she could recall.

Maybe it was because it was quiet, and easier to concentrate. Maybe it was because most people chose to be asleep, instead of bothering her with trivial complaints.

Needless to say, only one other person had the key to her personal chambers, and that was more of a precaution than anything. She preferred to be left alone when she was working, not only because it helped her concentrate, but because she didn't have to fret about someone sneaking past the guards to slip inside and assassinate her. She'd placed her room in the middle of the brigand's fortress for a reason: no windows, no entry, save for the locked door and a few magical traps and enchantments set up by Ales and Anise.

Zelos had the passwords necessary to bypass these traps, and the key to get inside should he ever have the need.

Or if he was just bored. She'd never outright said he could visit whenever he wished, but surely he knew by now that she didn't object to his company. After all they'd been through, he'd managed to earn her trust both on and off the battlefield.

She sat on the edge of her chair, absently rubbing her fingers over her forehead as she leaned over her crude map. There had been signs of a goblin warren to the right, and a fairly big one at that, so she marked it in kind. It hadn't seemed worth exploring at the time, since their quarry would be up to his neck in trouble if the goblins knew he'd invaded their territory.

The lantern was starting to sputter. Ellie realized her eyes were starting to strain in the slowly dimming darkness, so she got up to add more oil to the lantern. A warm glow spilled across the finely woven carpets laid out on the wooden floor, as well as the pile of furs she used for her bed. Trophies of the monsters she'd slain were hung on the walls, a proud reminder of the creatures she'd managed to fell. The fireplace had been allowed to die, holding nothing more than a few glowing embers now. She would sleep soon, once she'd finished a couple more pages.

Despite everything else, it's not hard for Zelos to notice that Raine is actually a little older than he remembers. He's not sure he buys the whole 'been here awhile' thing, but there's a good chance that she isn't lying, either.

Still, despite the time that had apparently passed (for her, anyway), he'd expected more of a reaction. He certainly hadn't expected her to ask what the last thing he remembered was; that almost felt like pouring salt on the wound.

It's definitely not something he's going to talk about, and so in response to her question, he simply shrugs before replying nonchalantly.

"Dunno. Guess this whole time-space travel thing really messes with your head, doesn't it?" That and being dead. Mostly being dead.

[Everyone was celebrating. It seemed like the plan was a success... well, the plan to stop Van's plan was, at least. And after a few days of traveling to get everything settled, it looked like Anise would finally be coming back to Daath. Of course, little did she know there was someone else waiting for her. Someone she wouldn't be expecting.]

[After carrying her battered body away from the Cheagle Woods, Largo was shocked to find that Arietta was still alive. What could he do? Leave her there to be given a final blow and steal her last breath? Maybe it was what she would have wanted in the event of a loss, but... he couldn't do it. And so, begging her forgiveness, he brought her to a healer to be saved. But where could she go now, who would look after her? Weighing his options, he chose the only people he could think who would selflessly take in a damaged and dangerous child like Arietta: the Tatlins. Sure, there was the possibility of her crossing paths with that replica of the Fon Master they'd taken in, but with her health in such a precarious state, chances are she wouldn't be getting out a bed any time soon.]

[There's no fanfare when Anise arrives. They couldn't have known exactly what day she would be back -- or maybe she wanted to surprise everyone? Either way, when she makes her way into the cathedral and heads to her parent's room, rather than the familiar sight of her mother and father... she'll be greeted by the sight of a bandaged and wounded Arietta, staring back at Anise with wide eyes.]

There had been a call issued by the lord of this land to heroes far and wide to help aid him in restoring peace to his troubled lands. Yet the world was currently in turmoil, with hordes of the dead rising from the earth to tear apart all living things, and war erupting between mighty nations. Many heroes had tried to help Lord Draxiel, yet none had ever returned and his pleas were becoming more desperate. If only the capital knew of their troubles, but no messenger of Lord Draxiel had ever returned either.

Something was out there, and it was leaving not a trace of its victims. Whether it was kidnappings, killings, or something more sinister, few could say, but it was clear there was a terrible evil at work. A perpetual gloom had fallen over the forests to the north of Lord Draxiel's castle, and with each day it loomed closer to the castle town. The townsfolk whisper of seeing a great winged beast at night, casting shadows across the stars and moon, and not a day goes by that the castle isn't besieged by the walking dead. Were it not for this, the townsfolk would have fled south weeks ago.

In an act of desperation Lord Draxiel's royal adviser, the great archmage Rothogaz, opened a portal in time and space to find mercenaries to aid them in their time of need. Two unlikely heroes came forth, not even realizing just how much they were about to change the fate of this world. Whether it was honor, glory, wealth, or adventure that these heroes sought, their tale begins in Lord Draxiel's study.

A tall dark haired man sat behind his desk, carefully scrutinizing the unlikely pair before he finally spoke. "Greetings mercenaries. I am Lord Draxiel, ruler of this land under King Gunther IV. My adviser may not have filled you in on all the details yet, so allow me to further explain. I need you to first get word to the capital that our situation here is most dire and we need reinforcements. Too many of my men have been killed, and many of them close friends of mine. We are currently fighting a war we cannot win, against a foe we don't even know. Even if the king cannot send aid, he must know what is happening here."

"Aptly put my lord!" A fat and greasy looking mage beside Lord Draxiel said while brushing crumbs off his robe.

"Don't interrupt me Rothogaz." Lord Draxiel said with a faint look of disgust on his face as he glanced at his royal adviser. "Upon successful delivery of my message to the king, I will pay you 15,000 gold crowns. It is a kingly sum for simple messenger duty, but things have grown desperate here. I'm certain the king may have rewards for you if you can find the source of our troubles here, but I will personally pay you 50,000 gold crowns if you can save my land. I cannot leave my castle and its people unprotected or I would look into it myself. No doubt it will nearly empty our treasury, but it will be worth every gold coin I have if-" An alarm sounded far below, and shouting and awful growls could also be heard. A heavy sigh came from Lord Draxiel as he stood up and began buckling on his armor.

"It seems that we are under attack yet again. If you'd like you may wait here or in town until it subsides, or you may even work for our typical soldier's pay of ten gold a day. If you'll excuse me, time is brief and my men will need Rothogaz and I. Ask your questions while I prepare."

[ Some time had passed after the Caelin Inheritance Dispute. Caelin seemed to have a good future with Lyndis there to assist Lord Hausen. Though today Eliwood rode into Caelin, he felt he should give just a bit more space to Lyndis as she got used to the change of pace Caelin brought compared to Sacae. And if he kept Hector waiting much longer again for their bi monthly bout, he wouldn't hear the end of it. It was all in jest of course, Eliwood knew this. However, he saw dark clouds building as he rode into Khathelet as well. The weather didn't seem to be on their side, but in these parts of the country, rain came and left in what seemed like no time at all.]

[ Still, it was better to hurry to their meeting place lest he get himself as well as his mount caught in the rain where movement would become next to impossible. Perhaps a rescheduling would have been best, but there was little time to send out a letter to Hector before he already started to make his way out this far. ]

[Regardless, leaving his horse at a stable near their meeting place in town, Eliwood entered the home to wait for his friend, giving one more pleading glance to the deeper darkening sky.]

[Kalki may have been defeated and Crystallis saved, but that doesn't mean there isn't still a need for a couple of spear-wielding cuties to do their best at protecting the people. Pyrrha had elected to stay here rather than return home, reasoning that certain plots there may collapse under their own weight without her as a lynchpin. And even though blitzball is fun, she can't fully let go of her Huntress roots, and has decided to join the military along with Eleanor to help keep the people safe.

It's just after their morning drills, and time for a bit of cooling off in the barracks. Duty has been light lately, so they've got some free time, and Pyrrha is currently using hers to get her aching feet out of her boots and give them some air. Letting out a sound precisely halfway between a sigh and a groan, she slowly flexes her toes, wincing slightly.]

[Remedial training. That's what her handlers had decided what would be best after the long road of recovery from her battle injuries. They knew better than to call it 'light duty' - any paladin would work themselves to the bone rather than take it easy while still on the job. So 'remedial training' it is, and Vastania awaits her charge for the day's exercises.]

[A light breeze ruffles the grass on the hill she's staked a claim to. The sun strikes her armor, and though it has been newly repaired it no longer gleams brightly. She waits, a towering figure - nearly seven and a half feet tall - over the plains, matched only by a hulking gray beast standing further afield. It too seems to be waiting, a saddle strapped to its back and adornments covering its trunk and tusks. A round shield and a crystal-headed hammer hang from its saddlebags. [A plea he never expected, and a place he would have preferred to avoid.

It was coincidence that had a Maelstrom Commander approach Takame, recruiting as much manpower to their side as possible. He didn’t know what the reason was, merely followed their request. He hadn’t even realized he’d gained renown enough to be recognized by the Maelstrom. Perhaps he carried himself a certain way, he wasn’t sure. It did not matter.

"An… esteemed individual has been captured by Garlean forces", the Commander explained to him and a small group of experienced adventurers. Intentionally neglecting to include the fact that said individual was the Warrior of Light around those more green. Their picking him from a crowd made him fear that his experience with the Empire had been exposed. A baseless fear, he thought. He would go anyway, but insisting upon going deeper in on his own using the excuse of previous stealth training to make the job quick and clean.

The Light Party he was in mostly remained on the outskirts of the Castrum, distracting guards that Takame may find the Warrior. “A Miqo’te woman,” he repeated to himself, “Keeper, Hair of deep red…”

He continued to repeat the description given to him in his head as he tiptoed through the Fortress, overhearing the last guard shift change blow their location from an open vent he then used to infiltrate. The halls and corners of every Castrum were the same to him. Castrum Abania was just like Fluminus, the same place he once monitored prisoners… this way, South Southwest wing down several flights of metal stairs that echoed even the sound of a pin drop. Repeating the details made him forget, if briefly, just where he was.

Briefly distracted guards made it child’s play to sneak into the prisoner’s cold, desolate cell with but two “Highly Skilled” soldiers to guard it. Skilled enough to manage half a question, “How did you--”, before Takame ran them through with his blade. A sealthy, quick, and silent kill where the only commotion that could be heard was their falling to the ground with a hard thud.

She would no doubt hear the noise and now see an Au Ra through the grates of a prison door standing where there were once obscured images of Garlean helmets. Through his peripheral vision, he glanced at the one in the cell. Miqo’te, Keeper, deep red hair…

... Confirm your objective.]

[If there was one benefit to the other scions being trapped in sleep, it was that there was nobody to scold Rose for getting captured. At least, that was Rose thought, until she woke up to a very angry lalafell standing over her bed. Tataru took two hours to get the screaming and crying out of her system, and that was soon followed by a litany of people from Ishgard.]

[According to what they said, Rose had slept for three full days. Rose could easily believe it. Her entire body was sore, and she felt like she had been hit by a cart. She had been malnourished before she started running, and the last spell she cast drained her of what energy she had left.]

[Still, it's good to feel safe, and after the healers usher everyone out, Rose has some time to herself. There's little she can do right now beyond sitting in bed. She's under strict orders to not leave her tent, and she isn't about to risk the wrath of Tataru.]

[Being alone was normal for a Dark Knight. Not a lot of folk were willing or capable of tolerating the unusual sight of a being able to use the strange inky darkness of the soul as a weapon or shield. Most immediately brand her and her ken as voidsent beings, others just call her monster but she doesn't particularly care.

The only thing she does care about is where she's going to get her next hot meal, tankards of ale, and the next unfortunate bastard to cross swords with her. There are many who are deserving of some swift and painful dark knight justice, from the poachers of Gridania, the raiders of Ul'dah, to the Garlean armies occupying Ala Mhigo and Khloe is more than happy to sever all their heads but there is one particular kind of scum she's always looking for. The black hearted slavers of Limsa Lominsa.

It had been a few days since she last had a target to go after which meant she spent her time in the dark corner of the Drowning Wench, eating four peoples worth of food, drinking five times her body weight, and causing all sorts of fights with other inebriated Lominsans. To keep it short, being a nuisance for Baderon. A short tempered, darkness using, tiny Miqo'te bitch as described by most of the beaten and bruised sailors who got on her bad side.]

HI AGAIN ROSE.

[personal profile] kesi 2019-06-16 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Takame has drowned himself in jobs and ale (mostly the former) since he rescued the Warrior of Light, Rose and days after that listened to her troubles. He had no words for her and ended up leaving in silence with a bow after one of the nurses requested that he leave. From there he returned to Limsa undertaking as many possible requests as he could. He’s had to keep himself busy or else he'll find himself thinking more than he should. About his lack of use.

Then he was yet again approached by the Maelstrom for a difficult task, knowing that he infiltrated Castrum Abania and came out successfully. A task the Maelstrom themselves would accompany him for while later being reinforced by an organization whose name he only tangentially recognized, the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.

That was how he found himself in the Navel, surrounded on all sides by Kobolds quivering in their gear and coming face to face with the kami… the primal they worshiped; Titan. That was how he ended up in the center of the conflict, betrayed by more and more as the officers with him dropped their weapons and fell to their knees spouting nonsense worshipping Titan like the kobolds. Takame was fortunate enough that before the last officer fell under this odd spell that Titan was weak enough to eliminate with one more powerful strike, the strongest technique in his arsenal, Hissatsu: Guren. The same he used to fell multiple Garlean Soldiers in one shot.

By the end of it all he was on his knees in the middle of the stage while all around him, his supposed allies and established kobols enemies cursed his name for eliminating their kami. He was battered and beaten from the fight, dust and dirt collected in his lungs enough that he could not stop coughing.

He could do little bit wait for his reinforcements. So this is the primal threat that Eorzea faced.]

[Ahead looms a Calamity...

Those were the last words Takame had heard before he fell to the ground en route to the Rising Stones, wishing to share troubling information he'd discovered upon a brief return to Ghymlit Dark. Before he found himself surrounded on all sides with a blinding light, an overwhelming aether threatening to consume all he was and would be if he were to linger.

For some time did he wander before a man calling himself the Crystal Exarch approached him. And had the wheel of fate turned differently Takame surely would have spilled his blood that day upon hearing all the truths he laid bare for the Au Ra. The Exarch should consider himself blessed by whatever gods they observed in this realm, "Norvrandt", that he only escaped that day with a potentially dislocated jaw.

It was an action Takame somewhat regretted today, a full year later, when the man has been so reasonable to him, the Captain of his city's Guard even offering tutelage for a new style of fighting. He would make up for this, find his way back to the Source and await the Warrior of Light's... await Rose's arrival to this shard. Thus did he make his way to Holminster Switch during the Sin Eater's assault on the town, doing everything and anything he could to evacuate survivors, kill eaters and if necessary those who had turned. It was an odd feeling for him, barking out orders to see civilians to safety rather than taking them.

Despite the recent return of the night sky to this region, Takame was ever one to stay cautious, holding his chakrams firmly yet ready to release at moment's notice. There are still eaters about, and he must see to it that those who survived have homes to return to.

It's what she would do, though he doubted she'd be thrilled about it. And yet being reminded of that boldness of hers made her absence sting that much more.]

[What both of them seem to lack is an internal compass. In the thick of the wood, it’s hard to see where they’re going. The thick fog that’s sitting in isn’t helping matters, either, and night is coming soon. Perhaps they’ve brought night back to this area, but that doesn’t make Rose feel any better.]

[In fact, she’s starting to grow concerned. Concern that she’s desperately trying to hide.]

It’s getting late. We should find somewhere to set up camp soon.

[Nearly as soon as she says that, the fog begins to clear, revealing a two-story building. It’s rather worn down, with the words ‘Inn’ written in large letters on the front.]

[The key difference now is that Rose has become better friends with Takame. She’s learned his tells, and his habits. She’s learned that when something is bothering him, or he’s feeling afraid, he’ll run away, and spends time in private. It would be easy to say that it’s because he’s cooking down, but the more likely explanation is that he’s trying to avoid the people he cares about.]

[And she’s not letting him get away with it this time. Not only is he hurt, he’s an idiot, and if he runs off he’s likely to get himself killed.]

[When Takame wakes up, he’ll find Rose sitting in a chair between him and the door. Her arms are crossed, and she doesn’t look very happy.]

Or continue as she has been for the past half hour or so, going back and forth between tables in the Adventurer's Guild, glancing Rose's way very frequently before going back to her cup of tea that had long since gone cold. Sometimes she would stand, as if going to go speak with the Keeper only to sit back down and repeat the process. Hells, why can't she calm down? She's just another person, right? Just... another Miqo'te... who is the Hero of Eorzea and lands beyond it...

And now she's gone and scared herself again, her tail behind her lashing to and fro showing her agitation if the growl she let out wasn't already an indicative of that.]

Rghhh... [Come on now Zhian, she told herself, you've got this. Takame and Hina could do this no problem... what she wouldn't give to have one of them with her right about now. But she didn't, and she really wanted to do this. After what felt like another 45 minutes (though it was more like 3), she stood up yet again, took a deep breath. And walked up to the table Rose was seated at, hands shaking and pinned to her sides and ears folding down under her headdress.]

U-Um... 'scuse me, ma'am...

For Takame, yet again

[It’s uncharacterstically early for Rose to be awake, but here she is, in front of Takame’s door. Takame is a known early riser, she’s sure he’s up, and she doesn’t mind waking him up if he isn’t.]

[She knocks, loudly enough to get his attention.]

Takame, are you awake?

[Rose was not the best healer in the bracer guild, but she was close. Despite this, her personality made her rather...difficult to work with. She’d already gone through any number of partners, and to no one’s surprise, another transfer request had come in.]

[She’s waiting patiently at the new guild branch, with her arms crossed and a frown. Nothing had been told to her about her new partner, save for his name. When she tried to ask about him, people laughed her off.]

[Just who did they assign her to?]
