[Raine is too far away to smack him. She settles for an aggrieved exhalation, and for bending to examine the rug.]
...Hm. This is a very old pattern. Older even than the state of the rug suggests.
[She straightens again and heads for a corner, waving her staff overhead into the lowest point to catch some of the cobwebs and examine those, too.]
Certainly it doesn't look like anyone's been here in a very long time, but monsters should have disturbed some of this, in theory. Unless they're immaterial...
[Raine trails off, a troubled, thinking expression on her face as she brushes cobwebs off her staff.]
Or maybe we lucked out. There probably aren't any monsters nearby, which just made our job a lot easier.
[And, almost as if on cue, the temperature of the room drops to a good ten degrees cooler. The rug that they are both standing on starts shaking, and several vases on a far shelf fall to the ground.]
[Okay, maybe that shakes Zelos, but he's going to do his best to keep calm.]
And the old man booby trapped the place before he died. Peachy.
When, that you can recall, have we ever been that lucky?
[Also luck is a finicky thing; but if it does exist then Zelos has definitely just jinxed them.]
[Raine twitches, and turns to look at the remnants of the vases.]
Those looked old-- honestly.
[She crosses to them and bends to examine the shards, turning one over in her hand with a moderately mournful expression before she starts to examine the shelf, running one hand over it in the search for hidden catches.]
Mm. I don't think this was trapped; even if it was, it would be an odd trap that simply dropped pottery. I think something else must be at work here.
