[It’s uncharacterstically early for Rose to be awake, but here she is, in front of Takame’s door. Takame is a known early riser, she’s sure he’s up, and she doesn’t mind waking him up if he isn’t.]
[Uncharacteristic for her indeed, but Takame was awake if only for a few minutes. Confused as to what Rose could need so early, he opened his door after a short delay.]
[Her arms are crossed, and she’s frowning. She’s come here with a mission in mind, and she plans on seeing it through. Without hesitating, she replies:]
I believe I was clear, wasn’t I? I want you to teach me how to use a sword.
[She sighs. Given her disposition, she understands his shock and hesitation. Rose can barely manage to use a machinist’s arm as it is. But that, to her, is why this is so important.]
Listen, there’s a good chance the Empire will attack again. And you may not be nearby when it does. I need to be able to defend myself.
[Oh he heard what you SAID Rose, he just can't really believe it given her distaste for violence. Hearing her reasoning for it, though, well. She wasn't wrong. As much as he wished to be, he could not be by her side every moment of every day.
He couldn't fault her for wanting a back up plan of sorts. Nor could he deny her what she wanted.]
I would be happy to teach you of course, but... ["You have noodle arms."] We would need to find a sword for you.
[She absolutely does have a distaste for violence. But she has an even bigger distaste for being hurt, which is what is prompting this conversation. Takame can’t stay by her side all the time, and she knows that.]
The sword is taken care of.
[She’d mentioned it in passing to a few of her acquaintances, and received more than one sword as a gift.]
[He... did seem to recall her mentioning getting a few swords as a gift, but. He thought she was joking. Ah, the one time he didn't take something "too seriously" as Zhian always criticized him for.
Takame put a hand to his chin, ignoring the sense of confusion that still lingered. There was no shortage of places they could train... but this wouldn't be the first time Takame taught someone completely new with a sword how to fight. He's very aware of the likelihood of... well, accidents.
An area more secluded would be best, he thought with a low hum before looking back to Rose. Thankfully, there were a few places that fit the bill.]
I know of a place. Equip yourself and meet me outside. I'll lead you there. [Quotes uttered moments before disaster.]
[‘Accidents?’ He acts like she’s completely lacking in any physical prowess. Which, to be honest, she is. Accidents are almost certainly a given, with her build and experience.]
[She nods before returning to her room to change. She opts for something more breathable than her usual wear, and grabs the smallest and lightest sword out of the bunch, before meeting him outside and following him into a clearing.]
[Her posture, the way she holds the sword lackadaisically at her side, there’s a lot to unpack here.]
[Anyone new at a skill like this is gonna make mistakes that cause accidents, that's just how it be on this bitch of a shard.
Takame equipped himself as well, though in nothing out of the ordinary for him, as he waited for her as promised. Her chosen equipment was... sufficient, at least, there's that. But giving her a slow glance from head to toe and back up again, eyes locking briefly on her chosen blade but noting her posture as well.
He couldn't help but be tempted to ask if she was sure about this... but he knew better than to question her. And well... she was expecting something out of him. She's a novice, he reminded himself. A small start.]
[A small start, indeed. Rose moves to draw her sword, and she successfully pulls it out of her scabbard.]
['Success' being a relative term. Once the sword is out, Rose immediately fumbles, and the sword sags to the ground. Curses! She didn't expect it to be so heavy.]
oh god help them. W-well... maybe there was a better reason why it slipped. If the sword was ill-suited to Rose after all, of course they wouldn't get past this first step.]
... No. Not all swords are forged the same. [you need different mats for them He took a few steps forward to get a closer view of it.]
[Rose knows a good bit about what goes into staves; a slight difference in wood can translate to a big difference in channeling ability. When it comes to swords, though, she's clueless.]
[She works to pick up her sword off the ground and hold it steady. She's trying her best to keep it up, but it's clear her arms are slightly trembling.]
That may help. I'm not used to something so heavy.
For Takame, yet again
[She knocks, loudly enough to get his attention.]
Takame, are you awake?
now with shiny new username.
Yes, did you need something?

Yes. I want you to teach me how to use a sword.

We just need somewhere to train.
